What’s in My Freezer? #TuesdayTen

Soon after my husband and I got married, my parents gave us an amazing and generous wedding gift. In fact, part of me wanted to not accept it because it seemed like too much. However, we didn’t do that and accepted their gift, a stand-alone freezer. I’m glad we did.

Having an extra freezer makes life easier. In addition to the typical frozen items people keep in their freezers, we can stock up on meat sales, save lots of left overs for my husband’s lunches or even another meal for my family.  And, twice we’ve even bought a 1/4 cow for the meat. Something we wouldn’t have been able to do without the stand-alone freezer.

Well, apparently March is National Frozen Foods Month. Who knew? I sure didn’t until recently. While we don’t buy a lot of frozen foods, I thought I’d celebrate with a few other bloggers this week with 10 things you will find in my freezers.

What's in My Freezer?

I don’t mention it on my list, but that white container is part of our ice cream maker. We keep it frozen at all times so we can make ice cream at a moment’s notice! :)

1. Leftover Meals — We make lots of casseroles or roasts that lead to left overs. We freeze what is left for a future meal. We have at least 3 such meals in the freezer at this time.

2. Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties, Girl Scout Cookies — You might be thinking, “Oh wow, what control to not eat those after all this time. The truth is I’m salivating to get at them (slowly, of course). I have a mild allergy to peanut butter. Since I’m pregnant, I’m not allowed to eat peanuts or peanut butter until I have the baby. So, my cookies wait until delivery day when I will deliver the baby and my husband will deliver me some yummy cookies!

3. Meats — The arrow is pointing at a 9 lb pork roast that I will divide up later and use to make a few dishes. There are other meats in this freezer including chicken breasts, pork chops, pork steaks, kielbasa, and beef.

4. Frozen Meals/Pizza — We have a few frozen pizzas if we are having a rough day and the thought of cooking is too much. We also have at least one frozen meal for my husband’s lunches and a few other frozen foods like garlic cheese bread to eat with pasta. And, naturally, there are frozen waffles and pancakes available for our girls’ breakfasts.

5. Frozen Lunches — Not only do we save left overs as full meals for the family, but my husband will create small meals with the left overs for his lunches at work. We prefer to do that and not frozen meals. It costs less, and we don’t need to worry about the excess sodium content.

6. Georgia Pecans — Oh, how I love Georgia pecans! Any time I run out of these and need more, I beg my parents to bring them up from Florida because I can’t get them here. They taste amazing and work great in baking (particularly my pecan pie) and on top of ice cream! Yum!

7. Frozen Veggies — We have some fresh frozen vegetables from our garden as well as store-bought veggies to go with our meals. I forgot about these frozen zucchini. I need to try a new recipe with those soon.

8. Snacks — My husband loves pizza rolls. I do too, but not as much as he does. He’ll eat a few as a quick afternoon snack. We also have chocolate ice cream for him and frozen vanilla yogurt for me. I started eating frozen yogurt in college and prefer it to ice cream to this day.

9. Beverages — So, I have some vodka in my freezer. Most of my friends know I don’t drink so I’m sure the fact that I have vodka confuses them. (Although when I did drink, I loved vodka.) Anyhow, I make an amazing Penne alla Vodka with Sausage recipe and keep my vodka handy for that purpose. As for the coffee, my husband and I don’t drink that either, but we keep it fresh in the freezer for when family (i.e., my mom and dad) come to visit.

10. Baking supplies — To keep our chocolate chips, toffee chips, white chocolate chips, and walnuts fresh for baking, we keep them in the freezer.

So, that’s what I have in my freezer (for the most part), what do you keep in yours?
